Joe Nash stopped at Mara's apartment in order to pick her up for work. Once more, he could not believe she lived in such a dump. Where ever he looked, he saw whores and junkies hanging around. The stories Mara had about the manager, Elmer, set him on edge. Once more, he will have try to convince her it was time to move. She could easily afford a better place. Or she would, he hoped, move in with him.
When he knocked at her door, he heard an unfamiliar voice answer. Did Mara have someone staying with her? After a long wait, the door finally opened and Joe saw an elderly woman there.
"What are you doing knocking the the door?" the old woman rasped. "You live here. You have a key!"
With that, Joe knew he had his keys in his purse. Where the purse came from, he did not know. But it was his.
"Let's get this over with. You know the routine. I need to be cleaned up and dressed," Mara said.
Sigh, Mara needed his help, like aways. He was grateful that at least she could still control her bowels. He tried to be grateful for the small things in this care givers job.
After cleaning up Mara, putting on a dry diaper and dressing Mara, Joe could finally get breakfast going. Not the Mara ever had much of an appetite. But Joe did.
After making sure the Mara was comfortable and set up in the living room, and the bathroom and kitchen were cleaned up, Joe finally went into Mara's bedroom to clean that up. Looking in the bedroom mirror, Joe saw the same old sight; a 350 pound woman wearing a white 60's era nurse's uniform, white tights, white slide on shoes and the old style white with a red stripe head ban. Jennifer knew she looked silly in this. But there was not much she looked good in. But Mara, for what ever reason, wanted her dressed like this.
Jennifer could have sworn that Mara and she had somewhere to be. But Mara was in no shape to go anywhere and besides, it was not safe to step out of the apartment. Also, Mara needed her. As long as Mara was still around, Jennifer will be there. She was that devoted to Mara's well being.
