Sharon gave her testimony, confirming what Jim/Jane had said. Doctor Wu's receptionist, Andrea, was called to the stand, but she, too had nothing but praise for her employer. Other patients—or victims?—of the Doctor were also called, and said much the same.

"Well Counsellor," said the judge, "so far you've failed to find a single person who has anything bad to say about the defendant. Not in the end, anyway."

"But that just proves how brainwashed they all are," replied the prosecutor.

"Unless you can come up with some independent corroboration of that, I'm going to have to rule this line of testimony out of order."

"Please give us a little longer," begged the prosecutor. "I'm sure we'll find someone—"

"Do you have another tack you can try?"

Some quick shuffling of papers and discussion with colleagues. "Unpaid taxes?" hazarded the prosecutor.

"We have already established that the Doctor charged no fees for his/her work," retorted the defence.

More shuffling of papers and discussion. "Well, there is the fact that the Doctor was running an unlicensed medical establishment. Using unlicensed procedures. With unlicensed equipment."

"Objection!" from the defence.

"Yes, Counsellor?"

"It has yet to be proven that the business the Doctor was operating was in fact a medical one."

The prosecutor was flabbergasted. "But the procedures carried out on these wo—men—people—obviously you don't think—"
