The band was playing a slow number, when a boy whom Jim recognised as a member of the school football team came up to him. "Please may I have this dance, Jaime?" he asked very politely.
"Zorry, but I'm straight," Jim said without thinking.
The jock looked a little puzzled for a moment, but then he smiled. "That's OK, so am I," he said. Before Jim knew what was happening, he found himself being whirled onto the dance-floor.
Michelle, who had been close enough to overhear the conversation, turned to Rick. "That was a bit naughty of Jaime, saying that she was straight to make sure that she would get to dance with Kevin. I guess she must be at least a bit bi, though, or she wouldn't have wanted to dance with him. I hope you're not too jealous, Rachel."
"I'm not jealous at all," Rick said, truthfully enough. However he was now rather regretting having decided to make the swim team believe that Rachel and Jaime were lesbian lovers. [711626]
