When the Master PC glitched and turned Jessie into twerp as well Ash's first traveling companion. The effects of this were far reaching as Ash had very important role in the lives of the people he traveled with. For meeting with him turned out to be a turning point in their lives.
Because Misty never had the excuse of her bike to follow Ash around. She eventually joined Team Rocket having not found anyway to get out her sister's shadow that she did by traveling along side Ash.
Equally something similar happen with May as she never travelled with Ash. She had met him of course but turned down his offer to travel with him as Jessie was still there with him(not having to leave for anything like Misty or Brock did in the original reality when Ash went to Johto). Thus she never got over her orignal dislike of pokemon nor did she discover that she was never meant to be a pokemon trainer but a pokemon coordinator.
So she too ended up desperately wanting to escape her father's shadow because she was constantly hearing people talking about how she was making her father's gym look bad because she lost at every gym she went to.
This where Misty came in seeing a lot of herself in May. A young girl that just wants to escape from the shadow of her family and be seen as their own person with their own talents. Thus May ended up joining Team Rocket like Misty did and the two of them became partners. While Max, May little brother, also joined as well because he was traveling with her.
So thank to tha glitch two of Ash's former traveling companion were now a part of Team Rocket. Though they did not do that annoying Team Rocket Motto every time they appear. That was quirk that Jessie retain as she would always introduce Ash the same way everytime he enter a new pokemon gym or got into a battle.
