Slightly Inspired by the Work of Crazy Diamond. To be completely honest.
Just to play devil's advocate, it wouldn't necessarily have to change anything. It can also translate as something more like "beloved," which Ranma already was to her. I totally get that that would defeat the whole purpose of the episode, but I just wanted to point that out.
The most interesting of those options, I think, would be Ranma as the kept lover of a married Shampoo. I can't say I've ever quite seen that before. Rarely is Ranma ever a side dish.
We have two other options for either none of the above, a variant of the above or all of the above.
Also with Mistress, Ranma and/or Ranko (my preference Ranma) could be a married Shampoo's kept lover, the dominate in a relationship with a Submissive Shampoo....
Or... the dominate kept lover of a submissive married Shampoo who might be the dominate in a relationship with Shampoo's 'spouse' (like Mousse or maybe of interest to "tuatara" Akane (who says it's a heterosexual marriage?)).
Thoughts?
I don't really think a mousse pairing works. In the the manga they would sometimes hint that Shampoo has feelings for him only to reveal it was a joke or misunderstanding. It was sorta a deconstruction of the stereotype that characters that argue all the time actually like one another, the same stereotype the Akane and Ranma are a prime example of. Even the fact that Mousse turned into a duck struck me as a metaphor for their relationship being exactly what it seems to be (quacks like a duck).
Because most people pair Mousse with Shampoo as he is Ranma Rival for Shampoo and what seems to be the Consolation Boyfriend for her.
Not a big fan of that, but then I prefer Shampoo/Ranma or Ranma/Harem with shampoo.
