This was it. She was finally going to do it. This was the day that Akane Tendo would learn to swim.
The ocean pounded against the turf. Akane may have failed in the shallow end of a kiddie pool, but salt makes you more buoyant, so surely it was easier to learn in ocean water.
Three surfers carried a fourth on a stretcher. The fourth boy cradled his broken leg warning all he passed that the waves were just too narly today.
Great, thought Akane. Narly means cool right?
Ranma threw an inflatable duck her way and told her to just hold onto it and try kicking with her legs. Akane threw it back insisting she didn’t need it.
She was a little peeved at how closely he was watching her, The beach does have lifeguards after all. Akane took her first step into the water. So far so good. Ranma watched as she went far enough for the water to reach her ankles, figuring another couple inches and he’d have to rescue her.
A bicycle somehow moved full speed across the sand. Ranma was focused on Akane so he missed the dreaded bell. He did hear the battle cry “Ai ya.’ Ranma leaped away, but Shampoo had predicted this. Shampoo leaped from her moving bicycle and glomped Ranma from exactly where she landed.
“Nihao Ranma. You date Shampoo now, Yes.”
“Shampoo, get off.”
At just that moment Akane was swept over by a large wave. She felt something slimey as seaweed carried by the wave entangled her body.
She thrashed wildly, trying to get her head above the water.
A lifeguard pulled Akanes head above water and carried her to shore, while Shampoo chased girl type Ranma with her thermos.
After throwing up some seawater and thanking the lifeguard, Akane watched Ranma run in circles. He was terrified of course, but from Akanes perspective he appeared to be frolicking with his adorable Chinese lover.
As Akane tossed seaweed aside she discoved a necklace. Perhaps this was a good luck charm brought to her by the goddess of the sea. Akane put it on already thinking she might try to swim again. Little did she know that this was the Amulet of Aphrodite with the power to steal attributes from other people.
Her thoughts were interrupted by Ranma’s scream. She turned to see Shampoo happily squeezing the life out of Ranma. She wasn’t in a swimsuit, because Shampoo was just taking a break from her deliveries. Akane turned her head with a snort and said:
