Toph was given a large slab of stone to work with at first. She started to bend the rock into the shape of Ms. Aran. With every little piece that came off the stone Toph lost a little bit more of her high level bending skills that she used to fight. By the time the statue was halfway done she could no longer bend metal or sand. When the statue was completely done Toph could only use her bending to see what was around her.
She had no idea how she had made the statue and would not be able to do it again anymore. So Ms Aran would need to find a new place for her in the world.
