Every year people write down their new years resolutions, and tie them to the branches of a tree that happens to grow close to a Shinto shrine. After a while the tree grew tired of seeing certain people make the same resolutions year after year and never follow through. One day the tree became so fed up it broke it’s vow and spoke to a human.
“Hey you,” said the tree.
“Me,” asked the human.
“Yes you. Take one of the cards off any of my branches.”
The human took the card. Written on it was a name and the persons new years resolution.
“Help this human fulfill her resolution.”
“What! Why me?”
“Because I said so.” bellowed the tree.
“Why should I,” the human petulantly repeated.
“I have the power to transform the bodies and minds of anyone within my shrine. If you’re not up to the task I will change you into someone who is.”
The card said:
