"I'm home" said Danielle as she walked back to her apartment.
"Mm mm." answered the voice of Sarah, her roommate, reading some manga in her bedroom as she used to do... well, she didn't do much more. But at least, she was paying her part of the rent, and for Danielle, that was just what she needed. Being at college was supposed to be fun, but Danielle wasn't coming from a rich family, hadn't especially good grades, and wasn't especially lucky. In the end, she couldn't even find a room in time at the campus she was admitted to, and had to find someone to rent something quite quickly near the college. Sarah was all she could find : geeky, quiet, serious. Cool for the rent, sure, but not much for anything else : she had forbidden parties in the little apartment, was grumpy whenever Danielle would do some noise when coming late, and always telling her, here and there, how she should act instead of doing what she used to do.
Danielle never listened. She had a lot more things to think about, mostly how to find money, like most student. And in the end, had found herself beginning to steal things. So, when today, she had saw that teen girl with gigantic tits displaying them proudly at the beach, she told herself that she deserved to be one of her victims. And stole her phone. Or what she thought was her phone at first. In the end, that was just a voice recorder, not something you could sell for some good price. Bad day.
The girl walked past her roommate ridiculously small bedroom, the girl reading on her bed like a child, and smiled, comparing her with the girl from the beach. Sarah, just like Danielle, was a black-haired, tall, thin girl, not specially attractive or ugly. Their bodies were fine, with small B cups and little asses and hips, not much, but enough to not be totally curveless. In a crowd, they were invisible. Maybe that was why Danielle found herself so good at stealing stuff : people were barely noticing her, and couldn't remember if she was here or not, or describe her with enough details to help any of her victims.
"Danielle, were you at the beach ?" said Sarah's voice while Danielle went to her bedroom.
"Yeah, I needed some time there. You should try to go, once. Why ?
- Because you're spreading sand behind you, you'd better clean this mess now.
- I'll do it. - said Danielle, looking at the voice recorder
- No, now. I don't want to walk on sand while I'm home.
- I'll do it, come on ! - Danielle played with the buttons
- Do it now, I know you, you'll never do it otherwise.."
"You're boring !" said Danielle angrily from her bedroom, barely looking at the device in her hand now "Go back to your manga !" she concluded, but then realized that she had pushed the record button while screaming that last sentence at Sarah. She heard a strange sound, and to her surprise, Sarah didn't answer. Usually, when Danielle said anything about mangas, animes or stuff, Sarah would go angry. That's why she taunted her right now.
"Sarah ?" she tried. But had no answer. "Sarah, then is it okay if I don't clean up right now ?"
Still hearing nothing, Danielle stood up and slowly walked to the nearby bedroom. And to her surprise, Sarah wasn't there anymore. But something caught Danielle's eye. She wasn't a manga expert, but the manga that was on Sarah's bed...the cover was looking familiar. She picked it up, and found herself looking at a cover displaying at girl drawn in manga style, with big eyes and all, but definitely looking like Sarah. The title of the thing was simply "Sarah's life".
Curious, Danielle turned a few pages and found herself reading about a little Sarah breaking her ankle at school. Danielle knew her roommate had broken her ankle at school when she was younger. "Is it... a drawn biography ?" frowned Danielle. She knew Sarah was fan of that kind of books but... this ? Danielle turned more pages, trying to find the moment Sarah had met her for the first time to see if she was speaking about her. And how she was drawn. And indeed, she found herself, searching for a room at college, and drawn in manga style too; Danielle sighed : even the guy who had drawn this hadn't given her a common look. So much for the artistic work.
Danielle decided to check how the book finished, and went to surprised to shocked when, page after page, she saw the book coming closer and closer to the present time... when was it drawn ? It was impossible ! An amazed Danielle looked at the last pages, where she was displayed coming back from the beach and sending sand everywhere around her. Then there was her fight with Sarah... and suddenly, Sarah was drawn, on her bed, shocked while Danielle's voice was saying "GO BACK TO YOUR MANGA !" in big, black letters. Then the book shown Danielle's hand pressing the voice recorder record button, and Sarah disappearing, surprised and afraid, leaving just... this manga behind her, falling on her bed were she used to be.
And then, the last page was showing a surprised Danielle entering the bedroom, and beginning to read the book.
"What the hell ?" whispered Danielle. And instantly, a new page appeared, showing her with written "What the hell ?" in small letters.
Danielle dropped the book on the bed, and stayed here for a while, hands on her mouth, her eyes looking at the thing. After a moment, she picked it up again, only to discover the last page, showing what she had just done right now. Her mind processed what had happened, and she read again the part where Sarah was disappearing. She went back to her bedroom to pick the dictaphone, dropped it next to the manga, and thought for a while.
Okay, this thing could do miracles. It made what she had said come true. So, basically, it could bring Sarah back.
Or... or maybe she could change the book of her life first... just to bring a funnier Sarah ?
