"Really? That's fantastic. So at last we have positive proof that the legendary princess really existed." "Yes, there's an inscription on the memorial which leaves no doubt on that score. Translating it from the ancient Arabic, it says: 'To Princess Jasmine. She went away to what we hope will be a better place.' I suppose that's their fancy way of saying that she died. There's also a date: 'In the Year 803 of the Prophet'. That would be some 400 years ago."

The two Jasmines, hidden by the remains of the wall they were crouching behind, conversed in whispers so as not to be overheard. "803! That's when we left. If they put up a memorial, it must mean we never made it back." "Not necessarliy. If they put up a memorial, and then later on we made it back, they'd hardly pull it down again, would they?"

The archaeologists broke for lunch soon afterwards, and the princesses decided to take the opportunity to try to sneak into the excavation and get a look at their memorial.

  1. *They succeeded in this.
  2. They got caught.
  3. Something else.

JH (Isn't it lucky that at least one of the Jasmines learnt English when she spent about a year with Uncle Sid (who of course when he first met the Jasmines spoke to them in fluent ancient Arabic).)
