I thought this was the back-and-forth-until-balanced branch, when I saw it, and wondered why Link hadn't yet kissed Zelda to spread the weight around some more.
Maybe the weight epidemic in Ordon is the result of the curse being wider spread than just Link, and Zelda became so hungry suddenly because it's latched onto her too? Or, if she manages to help Link lose weight, it's only because Zelda tampering with the curse in (1) causes all of that lost weight to transfer to her instead. If they can get Midna into her Twili form, that would create another reservoir for Link's excess weight to go to, provided they can put a halt to the wider curse that's fattened all the town's women up equally.
