As Sharon McCormick slept soundly before the first day of her final year at Shadow Peak High School, the senior dreamed a pleasant dream. Like many dreams, it shifted from one scene to another with no rhyme or reason, and if she were to parse how it played out after she woke, it would have made no coherent sense as a sequence of events. But in her dream, she first found herself running on the high school’s track as a member of the team (which, in the waking world, she wasn’t). And then after a confusing whirlwind of a conversation with Helen Williams (Helen said to her “Butter maple syrup” when asked the time of day), she was suddenly riding a horse around the same track, still dressed like she was a member of the track team.

Sharon was about to complete her first lap around the track on horseback when the sound of her alarm clock pierced the scene and pulled her awake.

“Uh…buh…”

Bleary-eyed, her thoughts still half-focused on the more vivid parts of the dream that remained in her mind as she rolled out of bed, Sharon stretched and began her morning march to the bathroom. Within moments, even the most vivid parts of her dream faded, and her waking mind began to focus on the day ahead.

It was the first day of her senior year of high school. If she wanted to get into her preferred college and take her first steps to law school, she’d need to survive one more year of the Shadow Peak High grind. But she felt she was ready for it. She may not have the valedictorian grades (Wendy probably had that title locked down), but she wasn’t going to let anything get in her way of her dreams this year! Not Jim’s more nonsensical ideas, not Robin’s cattiness, not…”

In her moments of morning privacy, Sharon scratched her butt. She had gotten no shortage of compliments about her ass from ogling and jealous classmates. But something about it felt…kind of strange that morning. Maybe she had slept weird?

She entered the bathroom, glanced in the mirror, and then did a double-take as her thoughts were yanked out of their drowsy state by her reflection.

“W-What the…?”

Atop Sharon’s head of brunette locks, she had a pair of furry, pointed ears like a horse’s. She reached up, and then gasped as she felt her fingers touch them. They were real…?!

Sharon brushed her fingers through the long hair framing the sides of her head, but where her human ears should have been, she strangely felt nothing. Through her shock, she then noticed an odd streak of white running through her locks in a way that might have matched a horse’s coat or mane more than a human’s hair coloring.

“What…what the hell…?”

Sharon’s gaze turned from her reflection’s face, to her reflection’s bust. Was she bigger? She had gone to bed with a C-cup, and yet her tits looked closer to Es! She turned her head, craning her neck to get a view of her ass, and somehow it too was bigger, and…

A long, brunette tail extended out from over her butt.

“...Wh…What the hell????”

With an eruption of speed, Sharon burst out of the bathroom and charged down the stairs in a pan—

“Shiny Random!” The voice of her mom yelled from the kitchen. “No galloping in the house!”

“S-Sorry!” Shar…Shiny Random sighed and trotted toward the kitchen.

Wait…Shiny Random? But her name was Shar…Shir…

Shiny Random entered the kitchen. Her mom, an experienced lawyer in her own right, and someone she looked up to, stood at the counter in her…nightgown and pink bathrobe? And her pointed, brown ears, just like Shiny Random’s twitched as she approached.

“Slow getting ready for your first day?” her mom asked.

“I, uh…” Shiny Random could hardly voice a question. Mostly because she wasn’t sure which question needed asking first, or most. ‘Why were they horsegirls?’ was as valid as any, but her mom didn’t seem bothered in the least. “Y-Yeah…” Shiny Random cleared her throat. “Uh…aren’t you late for work?”

“Work?” her mom asked. Looking like a still beautiful version of Shiny Random aged another twenty-five years, with more mature curves of a mare, she flashed a confused look of her own.

“At the law firm…?”

Shiny Random’s mom raised an eyebrow as her confusion seemed to increase. “Still in dreamland, sleepyhead? I’m retired.”

“Uh…?” Shiny Random blinked.

“You think a champion racer like me would want to work as a lawyer. Come on, now.” Smirking, she prepared to bag a simple lunch of a sandwich, apple, and multiple whole carrots.

“R-Right…” Shiny Random tried to laugh the apparent mistake off. “Just had a weird dream.”

*****

Dressed in her school uniform (since when did Shadow Peak High have uniforms?) of a stylish blue pleated skirt and a red top that brought to mind Japanese sailor-style uniforms, Shiny Random trotted by a glass display case filled with trophies and medals that were apparently her mother, Starlit Forest.

Shiny Random? Starlit Forest? Did she wake up in some weird My Little Pony parody?

At the door, Shiny Random slipped on her shoes: a pair of loafers with raised heels and…horseshoes nailed into the soles at the balls and toes of the feet.

It made no sense, and yet not only were they a perfect fit, but they were comfortable to wear.

“Shiny Random,” her mother called, “you’ll be late if you don’t hurry it up!”

“R-Right!”

No less certain about what was happening, or why, Shiny Random collected her school bag and headed out the door. But as she cantered to the bus stop, she saw, to her horror, the bus had departed without her.

“W-Wait!” Shiny Random ran at full gallop. “Wait!”

The bus didn’t stop for her, but she kept running, closing in. As she caught up, she thought that the bus had come to a stop and might let her on, but then she realized that the bus was still moving, and she was both outpacing and about to pass it.

Panicked and confused, Shiny Random just kept running.

*****

“Shadow Peak…Racing Academy…?”

The campus resembled Shadow Peak High School, and yet the sign posted at the school’s entrance said something else. And that something else was paired with a silhouette portrait of a horsegirl in full-gallop.

“Hey, Shiny!” A feminine voice called out to her, and she turned to see another horsegirl like her. It was…

  1. Robin Fos…Rolling Bomber, who considered Shiny Random her rival!
  2. *Helen Willia…Hell Leap, a horsegirl bearing scars from a wild running style!
  3. Wendy Bat…Wednesday Dandy, a shy, nerdy, and turbo-busty horsegirl. Possibly the bustiest in the class!
  4. Rick, that piece of sh…Risky Circle, an airhead who seemed to prefer the showpony aspects of racing more than the actual track time.
  5. Principal Katherine Gei…Headmistress King Geyser, who demanded the best from the academy’s horsegirls and saw Shiny Random’s potential!
  6. Something Else
