Jim, now far away from the previous plotline, attempted to make sense out of this turn of events, but it was pretty depressing any way you looked at it. The Cubs were a perennially terrible team, having yet another bad season this year. Which meant lots of losses, and lots of nights as a woman. But the worst part was, even if the Cubs somehow became one of the best teams in baseball, they'd still lose 60 games or so each year, which meant that Jim would have to reconcile himself to a considerable amount of femininity in his lifetime. And the last game of the season would suddenly become vital, even though the Cubs would always be out of contention. A loss there would mean six months of womanhood, from October to the beginning of spring training in March.
Still, Jim thought, a smart guy like himself might be able to do something about this.
