What Jim dared not confess was that one reason their morning sex was so spectacular was that on a deep level Sharon was scaring him with her incredible new strength. The idea that she could harm him, even accidentally, distracted him so much that he endured much longer than usual, a fact she gleefully exploited.
"So what's my assignment, sir?"
"Your ... assignment?"
She batted her big lovely eyes at him. "I can't be a schoolgirl without an assignment."
"I'll ... think of one as soon as possible, promise."
As soon as Jim got free, he called up some old friends and asked for an emergency conference at a neighborhood coffee shop.
"I'm glad you all could make it," he thanked them.
"I think it was the offer of free pizza tonight that did it," admitted Melvin, who was perhaps the most political of the gang.
"What I need from you is real simple -- on the face of it. Suppose you wanted to find out anything in the world, resolves any puzzle, any question. What would that be?"
"Aw man, that is so easy," remarked curly-haired bespectacled Steve. "What's the story of the dark matter and the dark energy? What are they, where are they, how can we confirm their existence? That's got to be the mystery of our time." Walter was nodding impatiently, then said "Is there an accessible way of deriving tremendous energy from hydrogen? I refer to atomic fusion or from hydrogen as a direct fuel." Jim dutifully wrote all this down. "And you?" "Oh, you know me. No one else here will say it, so I'll say it." Rick grinned. "Is there such a thing as an aphrodisiac pheremone -- and can we get it?"
