Jo suspected that she would change back when she was no longer pregnant. This very idea was what kept her from getting an abortion--she didn't want to change back. Besides, she wanted to bear Rick's children.
In the hospital, Rick was waiting with Jo. Jo went into the maternity ward and somewhat later, the doctor delivered a healthy baby girl...
But as soon as the baby was delivered, and Jo was no longer pregnant, the magic, which would have gone away months ago when the ring came out if it wasn't for the pregnancy, finally expired. Jo couldn't change back while she was pregnant. Now she could.
Jo changed back to Jim. The doctor held up the girl, who began to cry... and then the doctor looked at Jim. He couldn't remember what was going on.
Jim told the doctor, "I was that girl. My name is Jim. Do you remember her?"
The doctor scratched his head and did remember enough that Jim could explain the situation. "You'd better be careful what you write down," said Jim. "Nobody will believe it. You wouldn't have believed it either if you didn't see me change back."
It must be like the situation where Jim became Jo, but the other way around. Now nobody would remember Jo until reminded of her.
Rick walked in, despite the attempt of the staff to stop him. "Jim? What are you doing here?" he asked when he saw his friend. "Wait a minute, why am I here?"
"I hope this works," said Jim. "When I transform, people don't remember the old me unless I remind them. I'm going to remind you. Rick, do you remember Jo? I was Jo for nine months. I came here to give birth to our daughter Jill!
"Jo?" Rick scratched his head. "Oh, Jo! It's all coming back to me... you came to me as Jo and we made love and you told me you were Jim and then I remembered Jim, then you stayed Jo for the past nine months because you couldn't change back when pregnant...."
"Yeah, that's how it was," said Jim. "This is so weird..."
