"What is it this time?" Link asked weakly as she turned to the mirror. Her clothes seemed to be getting looser. She was shrinking again? She was already much shorter as a girl, how tiny was she going to get?
"Link? I'm not feeling so great..." Midna said from behind her. She had poor timing though, as Link yelped as her clothes suddenly vanished, leaving her entirely naked and rushing to cover her breasts and nether regions. However, once she was naked what was happening to her became obvious, as Link realised her skin was changing colour, becoming pale in some areas while becoming practically black in others. And she was still getting shorter, almost a head smaller than she was a minute ago.
Link stared at the the almost blueish grey skin tone that partially covered her. Her left leg was entirely black, but the wgrey part ran up the outward side of her right leg, the her belly was also grey, the colour running up between her breasts and up her neck to cover her face up to just below her eyes. She recognised this, even in her lightheaded state...
It came to her when she reached half her female form's original height. This was Midna's skin pattern! As if in response to this realization, her body began to do more than just shrink, her very proportions changing to resemble her imp companion. Her legs shrank at a faster rate than the rest of her body, her feet becoming tiny as her ankles thinned further. Her thighs slimmed as her hips swelled and her chest flattened, giving her a pear shape as her curvy hips offset her tiny legs, her rear remaining fairly flat despire her new curves. While she wouldn't have called her chest large, she was now almost flat, her chest two small bumps.
Despite her shrunken legs, her arms remained at their normal proportions, causing them to reach to her knees when they hung straight down. Her flat abdomen bulged out into a small pot belly, and two collar-like protrusions grew from her neck in a curl. Link noticed that her head was quite large compared to the rest of her body, and while her face looked mostly the same, it had a wide, immpish look to compliment her form. Her hair turned from soft golden locks to thick yellow-tinted orange, Link wondering if she could manipulate it like Midna did. As her mouth gaped at her new appearance, she noticed that one of her canines had grown abormally large and sharp. Light blue lines faded into sight across her body, Link only barely able to see them before her body turned pure black, her Twili body unable to show its true form in the light-filled realm.
Finally, Midna's stone helmet appeared on her head, one of her eyes being covered complete the effect as her . Her face was still visibly her own and her hair was more golden than Midna's pure orange, but she was light-headed and confused.
Midna's voice broke her from her confusion. "Well, I think being a girl is the least of your worries now. Don't worry, you pull off looking like me pretty well."
"Midna, I..." Link began to say she she turned around. She stopped and craned her neck upwards as she found herself staring at her own boots, then her pants, then her tunic, and then finally at the girl wearing them.
"You know, when I said I wanted to get out of this cursed form I wasn't talking about this." Midna said. "Being human is weird, how do you put up with this all day?"
Midna examined herself in the mirror. Short, annoyingly still flat-chested, and apparently ginger. She was pale and covered in freckles, with bright orange hair to match her usual form.
"Too bad this face looks like my cursed form you're stuck with. Normally I'm much more beautiful than this." Midna said as she opened and closed her mouth, squinting at herself in the mirror. Her face was more or less a humanised version of her imp one, looking very tomboyish now that she was human. And stuck in Link's clothes, too.
"What do you normally look like?" Link asked, still in a state of shock and confusion.
"Much more beautiful than that Zelda, I'll tell you that much." Midna said vainly.
"Does this mean I'm the hero now and you're the much more competent partner?" She asked, taking the situation much better than Link was.
"H-how can you just sit here and say that! Look at me!" Link cried, finding herself much more emotional than usual.
"You're talking to the wrong girl here, hero. I had to live with it, now you do too. If it makes you feel any better I'm not a huge fan of being human either. We'll have to find a way to fix this, so you can go back to being the mighty hero as usual. If you're still the hero, now that I think of it. Check your hand for that mark of yours." Midna said.
"I can't, not in this shadow form." Link said, holding up her solid black hand. "You check yours."
"I would if I could. Human clothes are stupid." She complained, fumbling unsuccessfully with her gloves, trying to get them off. After a minute she gave up, and looked down to find Link with her head in her heads.
"What are we going to do now?" Link asked. Midna knew she was the better one off in this situation, comparatively speaking, since she had a proper female body to begin with. Link hadn't had time to get used to her new hormones and all that before she turned Twili. It was no wonder she looked about ready to sob. Somebody had to be the moral support in this relationship now that Link was Twili and she was human. She'd have to eat now, wouldn't she? She had always seen Link do it but as a Twili had never really understood the concept. But she was getting off-topic.
"Hey, the worst thing that'll happen is that I have to do your job for you, and you have to do mine until we fix this. We'll figure something out. Probably." She said, the last word being whispered.
As the two tried to figure out what to do...
