The bell for first period rang and lars found himself seated along with thirty-five other students, few of which were his friends. It was history class and they were discussing the civil rights movement. Lars was a math and science guy so though her took great efforts to stay awake he dozed off the cube now left to the security of his backpack and not his attentiveness.
"Ay Rico" A young white boy said to his young mexican friend who sat beside Lars. "See what Gizmo's got in his bag, maybe something we could sell or something" THe boy spoke about their habit of stealing Lars's inventions and pawning them for cash.
Rico nodded and quietly unzipped the backpack and beheld the cube. "Dude we scored..." He reached for the cube eager to show his finding.
Suddenly it sparked and Rico felt a jolt of electricity travel from it and through his hand. The sensation grew sweeping through him and slumped over in his chair.
"Rico?" The other boy asked in a whisper before he caught the attention of the teacher.
"Excuse me Mr. Logner... would you like to speak before the class? Or will you let Olivia continue?"
Eric Logner paused and shook his head quieting listening to Livvi, the class feminist rant about the lack of women's right still today and how civil rights though a step was not complete. Most of the class groaned, those who were awake that is.
Eric poked Rico in the back with his foot but the boy was still slumped over. Now more curious than ever Eric inched his foot forward enough to knock the backpack over and all hell would break loose.
