A mechanical device created by a long-forgotten race of a long-vanished universe, to oppose the forces of chaos and put everything in perfect order. It appears to be a translucent floating cube with a vaguely crystaline structure. It is indestructible, nearly always intangible, and fires a beam that alters reality to be more orderly. Unfortunately, it has existed for quite a long time and passed through a great many universes, so it doesn't have a very good frame of reference for what things should be like. Furthermore, the AI that governs its behavior has accumulated a great many errors over the long course of its operation, but it does the best it can with the information it has.
It also has a tendency to bump into things, which sometimes causes the settings to slip.
This faulty device is going to appear in a certain specific world...
