To manage, to govern, to rule. To restrain, to bridle, to constrain. To reign, to master. So many of us wish to have that much more control over our lives, feel that it would be better managed by ourselves than by external forces. Who wants to be entirely beheld to fate, the fickle chance that someone in a higher position than yourself might see your worth and reward you accordingly? Would it not be better to have control over your own life, to govern your own wants and desires as you and you alone saw fit?
The Dunning-Kruger effect has a few things to say about that. Incompetence often entails the inability to recognise one's own incompetence. Would you be better suited at running your own life? Completely controlling everything in it? Of course, you would be unable to do this without imposing control on the others that also directly influenced your life. How do you think that they would feel about giving away that much control? Could you really do a better job at running their life than they can themselves?
In short, Akane Tendo had just gained the power to control the world. She was a teenage girl, in love with a teenage boy that was being pursued by numerous paramours that he did naught to dissuade. And she had just unknowingly gained control over the entirety of the planet.
God help them all. Then again, after a fashion, Akane herself was now a sort of god... The only question that remained was how she exerted her control.
