The Night Before Halloween

On the corner of Naylor Street and Pounder Avenue sat the quaint looking headquarters of the Shadow Peak Police Department. While at first glance it looked like something out of the "Andy Griffith Show" it was not at all a place of buck-toothed grins and homespun country justice. The Chief of Police, Bob Remington, could do one hell of an Andy Taylor impersonation when he wanted to but when it came to law and order he never hesitated to do what needed to be done even if it meant getting mean. And right now he was feeling as mean as a grizzly bear with a polecat stuck up his ass.

It was Sunday night, October 30th. The night before Halloween. Normally his schedule would be filled with the yearly Halloween routine. He had to prepare for the big Scare Fest the town was famous for, he had to keep a lid as much as possible on all the stupid, fool hijinks and pranks the kids (and some of the adults) liked to pull off, and he had to keep everybody happy while doing it. That was the hardest part, letting people have fun on Halloween while not letting them have too much fun.

But this year was different. Everything had changed two days ago and Chief Remington's job had suddenly become a fucking nightmare.

On Friday last, during the middle of first period classes at Shadow Peak High School, little Cindy Hulkus had inexplicably transformed into a seven foot tall, muscle bound she-hulk. She had gone on a rampage through the school and then through the town and after that she kidnapped her boyfriend Jimmy Boolly and ran off into the hills.

No one knew how Cindy's transformation was possible, but what was clear was that she needed to be found and put into a cage before she did anymore damage. Unfortunately, after three days of searching they still hadn't found her. Remington had asked Mayor Siemen to cancel the annual Scare Fest but the Mayor flat out refused. The town relied on the Fest to scare up a lot of cash for the city coffers and the Chamber of Commerce would have howled in protest if the event were cancelled. People from miles around came to Shadow Peak on Halloween and even having She-Hulk Cindy on the loose was not going to change that. Hell, the publicity was expected to bring in even more people than usual this year.

So, in the name of the almighty Dollar, public safety would have to take a back seat. And Chief Remington thought that stunk to high heaven. But there wasn't a damn thing he could do about it. Except, of course, find She-Hulk Cindy as fast as possible.

  1. *But She-Hulk Cindy wasn't the only problem that the S.P.P.D. was faced with...
