Mulder and Scully drove away from Reddick's house and headed back to Spanky's Motel Lodge. Mulder needed to change out of his ripped up pants. Scully couldn't resist telling Mulder that she thought Reddick was an over-reacting, paranoid, conspiracy loon. Based on what he had said, if it were true, Scully surmised that the authorities were involved with a cover-up, but it had nothing to do with UFOs or military experiments. Something toxic and hallucinatory had been released in the science building and the school was liable for it. The Principal and the Mayor were just trying to keep a lid on it and make sure there weren't any lawsuits. It wasn't very ethical or legal, but it definitely wasn't unusual or paranormal.
Mulder tried to defend Reddick and his story, but when Scully asked him why the man had been drinking alone in a dark room without windows in a house that was locked up tight and with a loaded 9mm hand gun by his side, Mulder was forced to zip his lips and drive back to Spanky's in silence. Once Mulder had changed, the two of them went to the Stroker's home.

Mulder knocked three times and a middle-aged woman opened the door. She looked tired. Her eyes were red and puffy. "Can I help you?" she asked. Mulder pulled out his badge, "We're with the FBI ma'am. We'd like to speak to you about your daughter and the events that took place at the highschool." The woman's whole demeanor suddenly changed. "I've already talked to the authorities!" she said in a frightened rush. "Now go away!" The door was slamming in Mulder's face but the FBI agent stuck his foot into the room and shoved his arm against the door. "I really need to speak to you about this ma'am," he said in a calm but determined voice.
Mrs.Stroker was too weak to stop Mulder as he pushed the door back and entered her house. Resigned, Mrs.Stroker sat down in the living room. "Your daughter Monique was involved with an 'incident' last Friday at the highschool," Mulder said to her, "we'd like you to tell us all about it." Mrs.Stroker, obviously on the verge of breaking down in tears, looked up and Mulder with pleading eyes. All she wanted was for him to go away. "Why can't you leave us alone?" she whimpered. "Just tell us what happened, Mrs.Stroker," Mulder replied.
But just as she was about to tell them what it was that she knew, the front door flew open and Mr.Stroker entered the room. "What the hell's goin on here? Who the hell are you people?!" he hollered at them, his only concern being for his sobbing wife.
