Okay, so they would all just become Kuonjis, right? That works too. Though I’m not sure how it would really be much different in practice from Akane’s plan. One results in four Kuonjis, while the other results in two Saotomes and two Tendos. Or… Huh. I guess they could all end up as either Tendos or Saotomes in that scenario. Hadn’t thought of that.
(It also assumes that Ukyo’s family will be down with bringing all three of them in, unless you go with the theory that she’s all that’s left of her family and therefore can add anyone to their registry that she wants.)
But yes, just telling everyone they have to accept it is certainly an option. It’s not really how any of the four have lived their lives up to this point, but there’s a first time for everything. And you did show that Ranma has reached kind of a breaking point. While I personally wouldn’t see changing one’s family name as too big a deal when taking the whole situation into account, it’s definitely something they shouldn’t have to do in order to win their families’ approval.
I do think Ukyo and Konatsu would both be pretty worried about Akane and Ranma alienating their families. Ukyo would surely know how important Akane’s sisters and father are to her. And Konatsu would know that even if Ranma’s showing her bravado right now, it would really hurt her if her parents abandoned her. Of course, Ranma has already made a huge declaration by committing to being a woman permanently, knowing how inflammatory that would be. She’s gone into this prepared for the worst.
Anyway, really great work on this one. You showed everyone’s feelings clearly and with sensitivity. While I’m much more inclined toward compromise than Ranma here, I actually agree with her. Their families should love and support them no matter what. Unfortunately, it isn’t always that easy. And there is usually something to be said for trying to meet people halfway.
Anyway, thank you for posting. It’s another solid update
