Many often compare Lum to Shampoo, but it occurs to me that when Akane had long hair in the manga, in some panels she looked remarkably similar to Lum.
This might be one way of explaining the likeness. Oh, and I suppose this means that Ten too is Akane's - and by extension Kasumi and Nabiki's - cousin, if all their mothers were sisters (Mrs Tendo being the eldest, Lum's mom being the middle ch1ld and Ten's mom being the youngest).
