"Okay," Jim said. "I'll get her. Do you have a phone?"
Jim nearly jumped out of his seat when Mr. Williams yelled, "Johnson!"
"What?" Jim asked.
Mr. Williams was about to respond, but a moment before he could the door opened and a man walked in, carrying a leather satchel.
He opened the satchel, and took out a cellphone with the company logo, two "C"s with raised "periods," which were behind the letters.
.C.C
Jim took it nervously, and said, "Um, thanks."
The man left the room, and Jim dialed Sharon's number on the phone.
When he reached her, Jim instructed Sharon, without giving any details, that she needed to come over to his new workplace.
He didn't need to give her directions, because she drove by the place with him many times.
Jim turned off the cellphone, and turned to face Mr. Williams.
Mr. Williams had rudely not even left the room while Jim had made the phone call.
"Okay, she's coming." Jim said.
"Good."
Mr. Williams took the cellphone and put it in a pocket of his suit.
"So, what is this all about?" Jim asked.
"I'm afraid I can't tell you until your girlfriend arrives." Mr. Williams stated.
"Well," Jim asked, "Can I watch some more stuff on the screen?"
"No." Was the response.
Jim tried to make smalltalk with Mr. Williams, but he was oddly silent.
Jim decided to sit there in silence, and wait.
About half an hour later, there was an announcement on the p.a.
"Attention: Mr. Williams, the visitor is being sent to Floor B1, Room X. Message repeats: Mr. Williams, the visitor is being sent to Floor B1, Room X."
"Come on," Mr. Williams said suddenly, "It's time we leave this room."
Together they left, and headed towards the nearest elevator.
When they entered, Mr. Williams said, "Floor B1."
The lift said, "I told you that down is very nice."
The lift immediately began moving, and stopped to let them off at the designated floor.
Once they were out, the doors closed and it moved back up.
"Come on, Mr. Ellis." Mr. Williams said. "Ms. McCormack awaits."
Mr. Williams led Jim through the maze of twisted corridors, finally arriving at a room marked simply, "X."
Except, of course, without the period.
Mr. Williams slid his keycard into the security device, and there was a beeping sound.
Mr. Williams then punched his access code into the ten-digit keypad.
The light on the security device turned green, and the door unlocked with a click.
They entered, and Jim saw Sharon alone, sitting on a couch.
She turned to face him.
"Jim, I'm so glad you're here! They had a security agent bring me down here, and I was worried something had happened!" Sharon exclaimed.
"Something did happen," Jim said softly. "My view of the universe has been irrecoverably altered."
"What?" Sharon asked. "Why? How?"
Jim was about to answer, when Mr. Williams cut him off, saying "That's classified, Ms. McCormack."
"Well, if the project involves both of us, then why can't we tell her?" JIm asked.
"What project?" Sharon demanded, but she was ignored.
"We can't tell her because you, Mr. Ellis," Mr. Williams explained, "Are the one that was hired."
"Oh, okay."
"Will someone please tell me what's going on here?" Sharon asked.
"Ms. McCormack, it's very simple." Mr. Williams said.
- *"We need you to marry Mr. Ellis, and tell everyone you know."
- "We need the two of you to be test subjects in ChangeCorp's current Primary Project."
- "We need to place chips in your brains. As you go about your daily lives, we will monitor you and see what happens."
- Something else.
