"Well, we need that technology, and we're going to obtain it one way or another." Mr. Williams said.
"So? What does that have to do with us?" Sharon asked.
Mr. Williams took a piece of paper out of his pocket with lightning-fast speed.
"This," he said, "Is Mr. Ellis's contract. It seems, he didn't read it before signing, so if he or his girlfriend fail to go by company wishes, he will be relocated to a different project, known as the 'Synch Project.'"
"What's the 'Synch Project?'" Jim asked.
"I'm glad you asked. The 'Synch Project' is project designed to get the actual technology by bombarding a test subject with different forms of radiation, and hopefully combining the subject with their different analogues. And at least one of these will know how to develop the technology." Mr. Williams explained. "Assuming, of course, that Jim, as-you-call-him, isn't killed by the process."
"What? You're mad!" Sharon exclaimed. "I refuse to let you kill Jim!"
"The line between genius and insanity is very thin. Besides," Mr. Williams said, "These stipulations are actually orders from higher up in the company. So, if you refuse to let us kill him, then will you agree to marry him?"
