"What was all that about?" Laurence McCormack asked. "Sharon, what did that crazy girl mean when she said that you'd had children with Jim?"
"Sir, please don't worry yourself unnecessarily," Mr Williams said before Sharon could reply. "As you could see, sadly the young woman is quite insane, and her ravings should simply be ignored. We feared that she might show up here today, and hence we were prepared. My colleagues are now taking her back to the secure mental institution from which she escaped a few days ago."
Jim and Sharon knew that Mr Williams' "explanation" was largely untrue, but at least it sounded plausible and they decided that it would be wisest to say nothing. They had a quick whispered conversation on whether they should proceed with the wedding. "I don't think that we can pull out now," Sharon said. "My parents would be devastated, yours as well no doubt, not to mention how let down all our other guests would feel. Some of them have travelled a long way to be here. And in any case we knew in advance that something like this was likely to happen."
