[Working on the assumption that this story takes place in 2003, the "Stripped" era] Click tracks and laser shows wait for nobody. Christina and the band knew the rule of this show: "if you fuck up, keep going". While part of her mind was stuck on why am I barking? the rest of her was dancing in time with the music and all the background singers. Some people in the band didn't even notice the barking, and some of the audience members (mostly the male ones) were too focused on Xtina's body and outfit to notice the singing.
Christina realized she could still hit the notes if she tried, so that it at least sounded like she was singing. So she just went with it. Once the first song was over, there was a short a costume change. Everyone gathered around her, but all she could do was bark.
The stage manager came over. "What is going on out there?"
"Woof woof woof!" said Christina
"I don't get it, are you trying to destroy your career?"
Christina did not answer. She knew that, for whatever reason, only barking would come out of her mouth.
"I'm shutting your mike off and we're going to sequence it."
Christina nodded. She hated doing this, but it was pretty common practice to have a pre-recorded singing voice in case something happened to her voice. In case she went too far with the partying.
The rest of the concert went fairly close to normal from the perspective of the audience, the band, and the dancers.
The whole time, Christina was doing her best to keep it together. What had happened to her?
After the concert...
