"Come on, pop!" Ranma had cried out from the top of the bamboo pole. "You can do better than that! Way too slow!"
It was pretty obvious that he was holding back, but something was kind of bugging Ranma right then. There really wasn't anything all that special about this place. He'd trained in grounds way more dangerous to navigate than this... and the springs all over the place certainly made it easy enough to take a fall. What was the big deal?
"Hey, you didn't drown or something down there, did you?" The old man was taking a little longer than he expected to come back to the surface. Hm... maybe he ought to take a look in case he hit his head on the way down or somethi-
Just then, a panda burst out of the spring leaping expertly into the air. Ranma stopped to stare at it in shock, as a voice yelled out from the ground below.
"Oh no! Sir land in spring of drowned panda! Now he take form of panda!"
"Wait, these pools transform you when you land in them?! Why didn't you say anything?!"
"You not ask!"
Before Ranma gave him a piece of his mind, the panda that was his father swiped hard with its paw causing him to stumble off the pole right towards another of the springs. He tumbled helplessly through the air, with no way to alter his trajectory in time... not without landing in one of the other springs, anyway. In the few seconds before impact, his imagination went to two places: The first, what he'd do to his stupid father for bringing him to this accursed place and the second, what the hell he was going to turn into once he hit that water...
