Crimson, Sharon, Jim and Calla sat in a circle in the basemant. Crimson, was sat crossed leg on a pile of old cushions, nursing the Can of Coke that Jim had given him, as if it was a rare treat. Jim and sharon were on an old battered couch he had brought down when he worked late. The had dragged over the large easy chair and Calla (Devika new form) sat in it with an eager face.
"Okay, let me explain how the ring is suppose to work and why it was made" Crimson said carefuly, making sure he had their attention "Did Devika tell you im always working for one side or other?"
Jim and Sharon both nodded.
"Well, what she didnt know, as it is rare, that sometimes i work for both sides at the same time!" Crimson said watching Jim look of surprise "The ring was part of one such time"
"Why would both sides work together, aren't their goals different?" Jim asked, unsure of what to make of this new fact.
"Mostly, yeah, but sometimes the goals are almost the same, enough anyway, for them to come to an agreement of sorts!" Said Crimson, watching the other 3 faces, making sure they got it "They needed a means of judging humans souls, every so often, while the human is still in this realm!"
"Why couldn't they send a Angel or Demon?" Sharon asked "im sure there powerful enough, that would be the easiest way?"
"I sure Devika told you about the agreement, that they would leave this realm for humans, it why me and Others like me are needed!" Crimson said calmly and then, after a quick sip of his can "well, the rules of that same agreement stops them, also it has to do with balance" "So why need another means to judge us then?" Jim asked "what do they get out of it?"
"Your Soul, That is what both sides are after" Crimson said in a tone that sent a shiver down jim spine "It is more Vauable then you can even realise and both side are always try to have more then the other, also, there jealous of you having it"
"Jealous of us, why!" Sharon asked, shocked that such powerful being would be jealous of mere humans "They have all that power, why would they be jealous of us having a soul?"
"Simple, they don't have one of their own, it part of there deal as being immortal" Crimson said with a smile "So, they go out of their way to claim humans for their own side, the ring was just another means to achive this goal?"
"So, i take it you don't have a soul?" Jim asked Crimson, wanting to try a pain him a bit "you being an immortal yourself"
"Actual, I do have a soul!" Crimson said truthfully with a smile "Im not immortal, im eternal and the price i pay for my power, is being bonded to my realm"
Jim and Sharon, didn't understand what the difference could be and Crimson wasn't going to explain to them. Afte waiting a few secounds for what he told them so far to sink in and be made sense of, Crimson Continued his explation.
"Okay, so both sides agreed that they needed a ring!" Crimson said cheerful "what they did not agree on was how the ring worked, lower wanted the ring to tempt it owner to do more and more evil, push the soul in their direction, while upper wanted the ring to guide the wearer to use it power to do more and more good deeds, you can see where the problem was!"
"So why couldn't they make their own rings" Jim asked, as that would have been the easiet way "Im sure they would have no problem having the required power!"
"Actual, that was their problem!" Crimson said in his usual cheerful voice "Oh, sure, they can craft objects, but their iterms get their power form the wielder, in the case of an angel or demon such like, from their internal link to their realm, but once in a hand of a human, that link is broken, limiting the iterm to what charge the iterm may have left"
Crimson paused, taking another samll sip of his can of coke and given his listerners, time to take in what he had said.
