“You done fixing that gazebo yet.” Granny Smith asked Big Macintosh.
“Nope.”
“Well what’s tak’in so long?”
Macintosh was about to answer when Applejack cut him off. “We’re out’a nails.”
“Well, I guess it can wait a bit.”
“Nope.” Macintosh answered.
“You mean to tell me you’re going all the way ta ponyville just for some nails.”
“Eyup!”
Spike panted. His muscles were throbbing; each flap of his wings was a stab of pain. He tried not to look down. The altitude and fear of falling was the only thing that stopped him from taking a break. At one point he tried to rest upon a cloud and only fell through. The dragon jerked a wing muscle trying to regain flight.
Pegasi could walk upon clouds, but dragons could not. Was it because he was a dragon, or was there something girlish about that particular ability that kept him from absorbing it.
If he’d really thought this out, or maybe asked Twilight, he would figure out that their was a magical element to the mechanics of Pegasi flight. To some degree they defied gravity. Without this particular magic on his side, Spike had to provide greater thrust.
Rainbow Dash caught up with Spike. The overconfident dragon had sprinted at the beginning of his flight and left the mare eating his dust. Now, like the tortoise to the hare, she threatened to pass him.
Spike tightened his jaw and looked forward. He flapped harder and managed to stay at least a nose ahead.
Little did he know, Rainbow made no effort to pass Spike. To her perception, a mares place was two paces behind her stallion. Somewhere in the back of her mind, a tomboyish voice thought Move it slowpoke. She pushed away this thought, dismissing it as unladylike. What would her idol, Rarity, think?
Did he need to drain a flyer to strengthen his wings, or would that stallions strength transfer over to Spikes wings.
Spike considered draining the male members of the wonderbolts. Was that a good idea? He thought about there skintight outfits, and the dance like choreography of their aerial acrobatics. On the other hand, if Rainbow Dash was any indication, the statue seemd to drain specific masculine traits, and not just manliness in general. Draining her had led to the sprouting of wings after all, even if his flight had room for improvement.
Applejack saw Spike land. He landed quickly, stomping his feet and making the nearby trees shake. Sure it looked cool, but that dragon was going to wreck his knees doing that, she thought.
Rainbow, on the other hand, was graceful. She twirled around a few times as she slowly glided towards ground. The look was reminiscent of a feather, falling to earth.
“Howdy yall.” came AJ’s greeting. “Wow Spike, did you fly here all on your own. Them wings of yours are getting strong.”
She spoke in a way you might talk when encouraging a ch1ld. In Applejacks memory Spike had grown up very fast and she still wasn’t used to what the sweet little dragon had become.” Spike didn’t like her tone; though it was better than Pinkie trying to pinch his cheeks.
Trying to hide how short of breath he was Spike asked, “Where’s Big Mac?”
“Oh, he went to town. We needed some nails from the hardware store. What do you need my brother for anyway.”
“Yes, why are we here Spikey,” Rainbow asked.
Spike growled in frustration. He’d come all this way for nothing. His wings ached like hell. He doubted he could fly back to ponyville. Now he looked weak to Rainbow, who was drawn to him for his masculinity, his strength.
To heck with it, Spike want, Spike thought. It worked once. “I need to talk to AJ.”
Spike slapped Rainbows flank, causing her to squee and giggle. “Go get us some drinks babe.”
“Sure pokey.” Rainbow pranced off toward the cider house.
I don’t much like the way he’s treating that mare,” Applejack thought. I reckon Spike does need a talking too.
Spike reached into his flight bag and fingered the statue while Applejack gave him a cross glare.
- Spikes drains Applejack of her outdoorsiness. In this new reality, her time in Manehattan turned her into a posh and primped city gal.
- As above, but Spike finally crosses the threshold and becomes a tomboyish female.
- AJ becomes a sexy farmers daughter type.
- *Big Mac returns in the knick of time.
- Spike finally feels manly enough to add Rarity to his collection.
- *Something Else
