Robin's mother opened the door to her room. Robin remembered her mother as a fit, well put together, prim and proper woman, but the woman who walked into Robin's room looked like Robin's mom, but she was forty pounds heavier, with her gut hanging over a pair of gray sweat pants. She wore a pink tank top. Her hair was a straw blonde bad dye job with dark roots. She had a tattoo of a dragon with wings snaking up her right upper arm. An unlit cigarette dangled from her mouth. "Get up. You're gonna be late for work again."
"Mom?" asked Robin.
"Yeah, what?"
"What's going on?"
"What's going on is you're going to be late again, and since I got laid off from the truck stop, you're the only one workin, so get your lazy ass out of bed. I washed your uniform." She jerked her head towards the closet. "It's hangin' in there." Her mom lit the cigarette and left.
Robin climbed out of bed. Her carpeting was thread bare with cigarette burns in it. She walked to her closet, opened the door and saw....
