Robin slowly walked to her closet, opened the door, and saw a "7-11" uniform - red, with black and green accents. She couldn't wear this! And she couldn't possibly work at a "7-11" store now! She couldn't even imagine the humiliation she would feel, allowing people, especially people she knew walking in there and seeing her working there.
She spun away from the closet, then left her room, pushing the curtain out of the way and marching into the ... well, the rest of the trailer. Her mom was sitting in a ratty-looking chair, watching an old TV, probably from the 80's, and smoking away on her cigarette.
"I am not working at '7-11'," Robin said. It was a statement of truth, as far as Robin was concerned. In all her 18 years of living, she had never worked anywhere, let alone a place like that.
But her mother took her statement to be one of snotty rebellion. She took one more sip of beer, then slammed it down on the fold out tray next to the chair. She then stood up and snarled at Robin. "You do what I say, you little shit. We ain't got your daddy around to make the money round here. That dumbass took off with that skank from Joe's Bar and he ain't comin' back. So you gonna work. Got it?" Robin's mom got up into her face. "Now get your ass back in that room, get yourself dressed, and go to your goddamn job!" she yelled, grabbing Robin and shoving her back to her "bedroom".
Robin wasn't sure how to react. What had happened to her mom, her family, her life?
