Karen eventually broke the silence with: "Most of the machinery that supports this base is highly automated. There's enough food, and oil for the generators, that we can survive for many years."
"That's a great comfort," Sharon said sarcastically.
"Well, perhaps we can work out a way to get out of here," Jim responded, trying to be positive. "But first, Karen, do you know how to turn that alarm off? It's getting on my nerves. And can you get the power back on? Meanwhile Sharon and I had better go back to our room and get dressed. Then we'll meet you back here, and we'll start a search of the base. We need to know if anyone else has been trapped here, and also what resources we have available to us."
As Jim and Sharon made their way back to their room, the siren stopped. Then the regular lighting came back on.
They entered their room and got dressed. Or rather Jim got dressed, and Sharon got dressed below the waist, as there was no way that the bra or the blouse that she had been wearing when they came to this alt were going to fit her any more.
Then they went back to the meeting point. Karen was there, still wearing her pyjamas. Either she hadn't had time to go back to her room and change, or they were the only things she had that fit.
They began their search of the base.
